ISB to train companies and executives to make Impactful and Sustainable CSR Investments
ISB to train companies and executives to make Impactful and Sustainable CSR Investments
August 05, 2016: The Indian School of Business (ISB) has announced a three-day executive education programme for CSR professionals aimed at equipping them to manage CSR investments more effectively aligned to the organisation’s strategy and create the desired impact.
The need for such a programme has gained importance in the backdrop of recent regulatory changes making CSR expenditure mandatory by companies and in the light-of-the increased interest from corporates in engaging in activities for social impact.
However the identification, monitoring and implementation of genuine CSR projects still remains a far cry due to the lack of a structured framework and capabilities for CSR programme management.
This programme will facilitate practitioners to look at sustainability, not as a limitation or a regulatory requirement, but as an opportunity for the future. The programme will help participants develop new strategies and skills for executing CSR initiatives.
The programme is also directed at companies that look at sustainability as a competitive advantage and are looking at professionals or seeking to upgrade their executives with the knowledge and capacity to accelerate the transformation of their business to sustainable enterprises.
The programme will be taught by faculty from global business schools, independent consultants, industry leaders / practitioners and thought leaders. Participants will get to understand and learn about
· Leading a CSI opportunity platform ideation process
· Managing stakeholder relations
· Creating value through CSR initiatives
· Governance of CSR activities
· CSR and competitive advantage
· Reporting on CSR – the triple bottom line
· Leading CSR / CSI Projects
Context
The 2013 regulation has made it mandatory for companies to spend 2% of their profit for CSR activities, the reality is that three years down the total spend is still 26% less than what was anticipated. Surprisingly the record of promoter driven companies on CSR is better than public sector companies. Another visible trend is that no foreign players having their India office have made it to the top 10 on CSR spend in India. The most common reason for failing to meet the mandated spending limit is ‘Funds committed but not spent’. Majority of organisations cite alignment to strategy, struggle in deciding where to invest, project identification and implementation as reasons for delay. Clearly the regulatory framework for CSR has failed to enthuse corporate to get cracking.
Who is it meant for?
Sustainability Heads, CSR Heads, Head of Foundations / Directors, Owners, Stakeholders, Independent Directors participants who have sufficient exposure in leading CSR projects are eligible for this programme. CSR heads who are responsible for setting the strategic direction for CSR across different initiatives can participate in this programme. This programme targets private sector businesses (both large and small firms, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), cooperatives, social enterprises, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), supply chains, policy makers and professional associations.
The programme will be offered at the ISB’s Mohali campus from August 30 to September 2, 2016. More details of the course are available at http://www.isb.edu/cee
