ISB receives its largest individual Alumni grant from PGPMAX alumnus

Funds to support ‘Technology Commercialization’ Programme targeted at Scientists, R&D professionals and Government officials
Hyderabad and Mohali, June 4, 2013 - The Indian School of Business (ISB) today received its largest individual Alumni grant from an alumnus of its Post Graduate Programme for Senior Executives (PGPMAX). The one-time contribution of Rs. 30 lakhs from Dr Satyanarayana Chava, alumnus of the founding class of PGPMAX and CEO, Laurus Labs, will enable the school to partially fund up to 25 deserving candidates of the programme on ‘Technology Commercialisation’ designed and delivered by the ISB’s Centre of Executive Education (CEE). This programme is targeted at research scientists, professionals from life science sector, government officials involved in research agencies and employees of financial institutions funding technology commercialisation.

Making the announcement, Deepak Chandra, Deputy Dean, ISB said, “ISB’s PGPMAX alumni have been demonstrating an excellent record of attaining leadership positions and entrepreneurial success. As Alumni of a young and fast growing programme, they are making a mark for themselves in the business world and are playing a pivotal role in contributing back to the growth and development of the school in many ways including work, wisdom and wealth. We are appreciative of Dr Chava’s initiative as contributions such as this will go a long way in strengthening the school’s efforts in making world class education accessible to many more deserving candidates. Earlier, the PGPMAX Class of 2012 alumni had contributed to a corpus to provide Scholarships to meritorious PGP students.” 

Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Dr Satyanarayana Chava, CEO, Laurus Labs and Deepak Chandra, Deputy Dean, ISB formalising the announcement. This collaboration brings together ISB’s Centre for Executive Education (CEE), one of the largest executive education providers in Asia and Laurus Labs Ltd, which offers a broad and integrated portfolio of products and services to the global pharmaceutical industry. Laurus has emerged as a segment-leading manufacturer of high quality APIs, a preferred partner for NCE development and manufacture and a trusted source of specialty ingredients for the nutraceutical industry.

Explaining the objective of this contribution to the ISB, Dr Satyanarayana Chava, CEO, Laurus Labs, said, “This contribution is a way of expressing my gratitude to my alma mater. The learning that I received during my course and the support from the alumni network helped me to propel my business forward.  I am confident that this funding will further strengthen the ISB’s vision to support talented professionals and at the same time build closer ties with the school”

The programme on Technology Commercialization, scheduled to be delivered from 29th July to 1st August, aims to introduce the key concepts of commercialization to the participants. Its curriculum has been designed with extensive inputs from the Biocon Cell for Innovation Management, at the ISB. The programme seeks to discern, clarify and delineate the interface of science and business, and participants would get an understanding of the set of skills, knowledge and expertise required for

  • Successful commercialization and management of technology products
  • Various strategies in Intellectual Property management,
  • Raising funding support  through avenues such as Venture Capital, Private Equity, Initial Public Offering
  • Role of innovation

Launched in 2010, the PGPMAX today is represented by an active group of around 120 Alumni working in diverse sectors around the world. With several alumni stepping into leadership positions and starting new ventures, the PGPMAX is well on its way to achieve its objective of creating leaders who will lead their organisations in the near future.
