First class of ISB’s Technology Entrepreneurship Programme all set to graduate

Industry and Govt. backed programme aims to ignite entrepreneurial spirit among budding engineers 
December 15, 2015: The Indian School of Business (ISB) today announced that the first class of the Technology Entrepreneurship Programme (TEP), supported by the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will graduate on Thursday, 17 December, 2015. Shri K T Rama Rao, Honourable Minister of IT and Panchayat Raj, Government of Telangana and Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB will grace the occasion and address the gathering.

The TEP is a semi virtual programme designed in association with the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) and the Institute for Electronic Governance (IEG) Andhra Pradesh

Expressing happiness on the successful graduation of the first class of TEP, Aruna Reddy, Head, Centre for Entrepreneurship (CIE), ISB said, “I would like to congratulate the young engineers who have demonstrated exceptional out-of-the-box thinking and an entrepreneurial attitude throughout the programme. I am proud to note that this path-breaking initiative from the ISB and the Governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will play a significant role in fulfilling the needs of young Indians with an entrepreneurial bent of mind and make them wealth creators for the nation in the years to come.”

Looking back on a successful maiden year, Sujiv Nair, Chief Executive Officer, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge Department of ITE&C, Government of Telangana said, “We have experienced that this programme has mainly helped students widen their achievement motivation and more importantly is a planned effort to inculcate develop and polish the capability and skills of a student to become and behave as an entrepreneur.”

Sharing the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s objective in supporting this programme, Dr B Sundar, Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Electronic Governance, Government of Andhra Pradesh said,: We have started the programme with a vision of creating an entrepreneurial civilization by training young engineers in entrepreneurship and we hope that this programme helps in providing necessary ecosystem to the students for translating their knowledge into technology and then comercialisation.”

Aimed at igniting the entrepreneurial spirit among young technologists, the TEP is also backed by a host of blue-chip players in the country including Microsoft, Google, Deloitte, HBR, Tata Motors etc. Senior executives from these companies have agreed to mentor potential technopreneurs in their 3rd and 4th year of engineering from about 20 colleges in the two states.

TEP aims to provide an environment/experience for engineering students across all disciplines where they can create proof of concept (POC) models and enhance their own employability apart from exploring options to kick off their own start-ups. A highlight of the event will be felicitating the winners of the Engineering Design Challenge conducted by ISB for the students in the TEP. In this exercise, students came up with product prototypes such as a Smart Water Heater, Local Positioning System, a Smart Gas Measuring Device and a Car Fuel Meter – all directed at solving everyday problems. A total of 71 Teams submitted such prototypes; of which 21 teams were selected to attend a bootcamp. They received guidance from industry stalwarts across a variety of sectors at the bootcamp.

The Technology Entrepreneurship Programme (TEP) at ISB is aimed at encouraging and enabling engineering students to consider entrepreneurship as a career choice. Over a two-year period, the programme aims to embed technology entrepreneurship education, across the major disciplines of engineering and help the student’s to create and launch new business ventures.
