ISB organises short story writing competition for school students

The Indian School of Business (ISB) in partnership with CII-Young Indians (Yi), Chandigarh and Rumour Books India organised Cadence – Think Big contest 2014 - a short story writing cum book review competition for school children in the Tricity region. The contest saw participation from over 13 schools from Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.
A highlight of this competition was the release of a book comprising 15 winning entries of short stories by the students at a prize distribution ceremony held at the ISB’s Mohali campus earlier today.  Pradeep Singh, Deputy Dean and CEO, Mohali campus, ISB gave away the prizes to the winners. Other dignitaries gracing the occasion were Amit Chugh from Yi and Reekrit Serai, MD, Rumour Books India.
Addressing the students, Pradeep Singh said, “We believe it’s important for students to inculcate the habits of reading and writing at an early age, which will help them to begin the process of self awareness. With this initiative we hope to groom more students in the coming years and to contribute to the building of a talent pool of bright young minds in the country.”
An initiative of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at the ISB, the objective of the contest was to encourage reading and writing habits, improve their reading skills, selection of reading materials and to widen the knowledge base among school going students. Through the competition, students were exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and views by prominent authors in the area of young adult literature.
The contest was conducted at two levels for children of grades 9 – 11 of the schools of the Tricity. Level 1 involved the review of a book at individual school level and Level 2 was about Short Story Writing at Inter School Level. At Level 1, overall 13 schools participated with 51 book review entries. 30 contestants made it to Level 2 and finally 15 short story entries were chosen by the editorial team to be included in the book.
