Czars of India Inc. converge at ISB

The Punjab Government recently organised a two-day summit to reach out to investors and business leaders by showcasing the state's strengths which make it one of the most favoured destinations in the country for setting up business.

The Mohali campus of the Indian School of Business (ISB) was the natural choice for the Punjab Government to host its maiden investor’s summit. Spread over a sprawling 70-acres with state of the art infrastructure, facilities and technology, the campus is a successful example of the new phase of growth in the state of Punjab.

The summit saw the towering presence of a galaxy of best-known faces of India Inc. including Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries, Lakshmi Narayan Mittal of Arcelor Mittal, Kiran Majumdar Shaw of Biocon, Sunil Bharti Mittal of Airtel, YC Deveshwar of ITC, Onkar Singh Kanwar of Apollo Tyres, Malvinder Mohan Singh of Fortis Healthcare, G.V.K. Reddy of GVK Group and Sunil Kant Munjal of Hero MotoCorp.

The business leaders were profuse in commending the Government’s initiatives to accelerate growth in the region by encouraging investment.

Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB spoke about Physical Infrastructure, Fiscal Incentives, Human Resource, Governance reforms, Law and Order and Social Infrastructure as the five new rivers that would make Punjab industrially fertile. Rangnekar also spoke about ISB’s role in becoming an active contributor of growth in the region and stated that academic institutions can play the role of a catalyst in driving growth in the region and beyond. He cited the example of ISB’s Hyderabad campus which has amply demonstrated this in the last 12 years of its existence there. He expressed faith that the Mohali campus too will play the role of a catalyst in driving growth in this region.

The Mohali campus was established with the support of the Government of Punjab and four founding board members of the ISB hailing from the state – Analjit Singh, Atul Punj, Rakesh Bharti Mittal and Sunil Kant Munjal. In addition to imparting world class management education the school also focuses on bringing its knowledge and expertise to benefit society. In the one year since the Mohali campus was inaugurated, the campus has been working with the local industry and government for enhancing the entrepreneurial and manufacturing ecosystem in the state through research and academic-industry connects. The school endeavours to establish and facilitate synergy between government, industry and academia through more such constructive collaboration that would benefit all stakeholders in the region.
