Bishan Singh Bedi sets the ball rolling for ISB Sports League

The Indian School of Business (ISB) today hosted Bishan Singh Bedi, the former Captain of the Indian cricket team, as the guest of honour on the occasion of the launch of the ISB Sports League (ISL) at the Mohali campus. The third edition of the much anticipated event, the ISL was flagged off by Bishan Singh Bedi, with a game of Cricket with the ISB students.

Unveiling the coveted ISL trophy, Bedi shared his experience as a cricket player with the ISB community and motivated them to follow their heart in whatever they do. “If you do not have the madness to do something, then you can never do it,” said Bedi. Further he talked about the need of having Indian Sports Services just like the country has the IAS, IRS and IFS. He said, “This is one field we need to explore seriously. A revolution can only take place on young shoulders. India today needs young and independent minds. Though we are politically free but mentally we still are slaves. We need to free our minds to grow.” He then wished the ISL teams all the best to take forward the tournament.

ISL, is an exciting sporting extravaganza that has been conceptualised on the lines of the IPL and has had a successful first season in 2010 at Hyderabad campus. ISL is being held across both the campuses of ISB now - Hyderabad and Mohali. The ISB’s  Mohali campus has three franchisees - Punjab Hukums, Mohali Mavericks and Sultans. The Hyderabad campus has four franchisees by the names of Raging Bulls, Hurricanes, Titans and Hyderabad Nizams. All the franchisees are owned, managed and staffed by the students of the ISB. This is a franchise model, where each franchise builds its own team through player auction. The ISL presents the ISB community and its sponsoring partners an opportunity to be involved in a comprehensive sports management exercise, learning the negotiation skills and above all applying their classroom learning in practical to manage the available resources optimally and develop the leadership skills, all in the true ISB spirit of excellence.

The teams fight it out for several sports tournaments like Cricket, Water polo, Squash, Badminton, Table Tennis, Pool, Football, Squash and Volleyball, Foosball etc.
