Back Summer Research Conference 2011 in Finance
The Centre for Analytical Finance (CAF), at the Indian School of Business (ISB) held its annual flagship Summer Research Conference in Finance on July 28-31, 2011. The theme of this year’s conference was “Recent Advances in Corporate Finance.”
Anjan Thakor, John E. Simon Professor of Finance, Washington University in St, Louis, presented a keynote address on “The Real World and the World of Research – A Battle of Paradigms.” He spoke about how the financial crisis has forced academics to re-think theories and their own paradigms in the areas of Finance and Economics. The traditional paradigms no longer adequately explain many of the anomalies evident in the current market.
In total, 14 research papers were presented at the conference. The Citi Best Paper Award was presented to the paper entitled “On Enhancing Shareholder Control: A (Dodd-) Frank Assessment of Proxy Access,” by Jonathan Cohn of University of Texas (Austin), Stuart Gillan of Texas Tech University, and Jay Hartzell of University of Texas (Austin). The Citi Foundation, who are the centre’s sponsors announced USD 5,000 for the best paper presented at the conference.
